inspired by the fair
It's that time of year! The Iowa State Fair is here. Those 11 days of summer that light up our state each and every August. And in the spirit of Iowa's favorite time of year, we selected some of our favorite items that give us all the fair feels. Only thing not pictured? The funnel cake.
From it's inception in 1854, The Iowa State Fair now attracts more than 1,000,000 people annually from all over the world where midway rides swing around the bravest thrill-seeks, antiques are shown and sold, live music is enjoyed, new foods are experienced, blue ribbons are awarded for the most worthy goats, horses, cows, and chickens, and so much more. 11 days is barely enough.
One of the main fair attractions is the Grand Stand stage where big-name acts like Sonny and Cher, Johnny Cash, Alicia Keys, KISS, and James Taylor have all performed over the years.
Others eat their way through the Iowa State Fair (us!) searching for the best fried-fill in the blank-on-a-stick. There are over 70 "on-a-stick" features such as a deep fried hot dog, turkey drum stick, candy bars and hardboiled eggs. Yummmmmmmm.
And our favorite attraction is the butter cow and featured butter sculpture, this year, Laura Ingalls Wilder. And for girls that used to play Little House on the Prairie as kids, it's all our childhood dreams come true. It's worth the lines, trust us. What's your can't miss Fair attraction?
